An afterthought

Oh and by the way, YAYYYYY! Bring out the party honkers - I've surpassed my highest number of blog posts in a month, which is previously 30 btw - I now have 33 posts for July 2013 and this month is not yet over hehe. So, yeah, in other words, I'm way too active here.... is that a good thing or a bad thing? haha :P

*Achievement unlocked*
*New record: Highest Blog Posts in a Month*
*Grants title of 'Master Blogger'*
*Current total blog posts count: 230*

Diablo III - the actual review after the ranting

lol, well, I still don't like it (the game) that much, because well, I'm very much against forcing people to connect to a server while all they wanted to do is play the campaign offline and by themselves.

But all in all, it has good storyline - the boss fights are rather tough - especially if you plan on getting the achievements. The classes are cool - I like monk, wizard and demon hunter the most though IMHO, ranged classes get the best out of everything (in terms of boss achievement-wise) by being able to avoid getting any damage - kiting FTW! :)

Swarms still can kill me at times... when I was so busy DPS-ing and forgot to heal myself lol :P It's still the usual 'point and click' system btw, whereby you just keep killing mobs one after another and get loot then sell those loot so you can get more loot to sell... lol..

However, the disadvantage is that I don't exactly like the progression system they have in there. I mean, yes the first run-through of the game is great and everything but then you seriously expect me to play a second, third and fourth run-through of the same quests, same bosses and same maps with practically the same spells and class and sht? N. O. Playing once is enough thank you. It's not like you have any end-game stuff for me to play with anyways.

Plus, I didn't care much about blacksmithing or jewelcrafting (what's the actual name for this profession?) or even that one profession that I haven't unlocked yet.

So, overall, it's still not worth the money you spent to buy this game. Unfortunately, there are no 'free' version of this game yet hehe - that's the main reason why my bro and I went and bought it.

Over-reacting

I've just finished reading http://therealsingapore.com/content/young-singaporean-muslim-perspective-i-am-muslim-and-i-am-not-offended on the Alvivi's case and I have some real strong opinion on this, so I thought I'd write something about this. So... here goes!

*Copied from my scrapped fb status update - coz well, I know a shtstorm will definitely happen if I actually post this there. Not that I'm bias or anything but I'm just being logical.*

Now here's a person who is speaking after using his head and not acting emotionally and without thought. His suggestion of punishment sounds way more reasonable. I mean like, seriously, they may be terribly insensitive people with tendency to go overboard when trolling, but condemning them like they are actual criminals (robbers, rapists, kidnappers, drug dealers, murderers) is just over-reacting.

Plus, needless to say, there are various other cases where other religions in Msia were insulted as well... if the punishment meted out to these couples are THAT severe, what about the other people who are even more insensitive and even more insulting? Or those who actually hated the other religions and did their very best to condemn those religion in public/ through social media? What about them?

Hence, when I saw some people saying that it's selective prosecution, you can't blame me for being inclined to agree with them.

All in all, I'll quote the author 'In all, we must keep things in perspective in issuing justice so that our emotions doesn't cloud our reason.'

Halal Google

Hehe, well, I'm curious as to how they are going to implement this in Msia (if they plan to -worse case senario-)... Force everyone to use this by blocking access to any other search engines? That will definitely cause a HUGE shtstorm... uh, I mean uproar :P, among a lot of Malaysians regardless of religion or race.

Anyways, I just... dunno about this. From what I see, they block out pretty much everything that is related to modern entertainment (in general) and someone suggested a very good question... and I quote

hmm, really a food for thought.

Cyber/online mobbing - the new internet phenomenon

Honestly speaking, it's high time someone give this internet phenomenon a proper name :P Although, I'd have called it cyber mobbing (sounds cooler :P) but well, online mobbing sounds okay as well.

What is cyber/online mobbing?
It is this phenomenon when netizens are so upset over a certain issue that they launch a personal attack against the perpetrator or/and their relatives/family/close friends, which includes spreading personal information (IC number, home address, facebook's/other social media sites'/websites' ID/username, phone number, financial information) about the supposed perpetrator or/and their relatives/family/close friends; issuing threats (physical/death threats, for example. However, it may also include other threats.) against the supposed perpetrator or/and their relatives/family/close friends via the internet; spamming the said perpetrator's or/and their relatives'/family's/close friends' social media pages/blogs/websites until the said pages are forced to be taken down; and some other equally uncalled for actions from angered netizens.

How this 'cyber mobbing' has come about?
Well, due to the anonymity that the internet has given to this new generation of 'activists' (called 'clicktivists') who fought, via the net, against things that they felt is violating human rights and such stuff, they are bolder in terms of expressing their feelings and views. However, some people may just use this as a disguise to spread their flames of hate which burn extremely well using the general emotion that the people have at the moment as kindling. These people are the sort of people who would cause a riot if they participated in a 'peaceful rally' or cause a war if weapons are involved - and now they have a new, powerful weapon in their arsenal - the internet.

My thoughts
First of all, to me, expressing one's opinion is one thing, but by doing the above mentioned things (in my first sub-paragraph) is more like 'expressing one's emotion' at a whole new level. Taking it upon yourself to 'punish' the perpetrator/s by harassing their personal and social lives or verbally/physically threatening people is considered a personal attack.

I would like to quote the author of this article on this matter:

It is one thing to express your views on the matter and yes, to even criticise the person, but it is a whole different thing to dish out our own brand of punishment on them.

There are many ways to show our dissatisfaction or disagreement on something without the need to debase ourselves with personal attacks and mob vigilantism.

Think of how we would feel if our personal details, our Identity Card (IC) number and address, and even the particulars of our family members are shared by strangers, some of whom have less than noble intentions?

Cyber mobbing is not doing anything good and just portrays the participants of such activity as immature kids. If you're unhappy about a blogger, let him/her know by posting, ONCE, on his/her blog saying so and why; if you're unhappy with an article in the news, write and submit a counter-article; if you're unhappy about the way things are, change it (in a reasonable manner)!

Clicking 'report spam' multiple times on someone's facebook page just because you don't like them and that plenty of 'other people' did the same thing too is not a valid enough reason for you to do so. Use that brain of yours and think before you get sweep along the 'wave of emotion' over a hotly debated issue and think that if you someday did something that is deemed 'wrong' in the eyes of everyone (except you) and everyone you know is treating you this way - how would you feel? Indeed, by participating in cyber mobbing/ vigilantism, you are just debasing yourself. Quoting from the Bible (I'm not a Christian btw) and, I think, from a wise teacher (Confucius) as well:
Treat others as you would want them to treat you.
There is nothing wrong with expressing your feelings, emotions and opinions (the right to express yourself), but understand the boundaries, because when you crossed that thin line between expressing opinions to making personal attacks, you are hurting someone, whom you may not know, for sure, is the main cause of the issue that you're extremely concerned about. Think about it.

Jocelyn - Miss America

Don't tell me how you feel
Just show me what you mean
I want to feel your body
Without spaces in between

Share your deepest secrets
And memories
Paint me a picture of your favourite place
Your favourite place

She's my Miss America
(The one that got away)
I was just too good for her
(Now she's too good for me)
But if I had to take a guess
I would say I had a chance
Coz one in a million
To better than the rest

We could stay up all night
And fill the moon in the sky
See our midnight breath
As it slowly passes by
Watch the morning sunrise
While pretended
Daylight comes in to carry us away
Carry us away

She's my Miss America
(The one that got away)
I was just too good for her
(Now she's too good for me)
But if I had to take a guess
I would say I had a chance
Coz one in a million
To better than the rest

Could do this all on my own
Sure as hell ready to try
(But would)
Would I make things harder
When you could be by my side

She's my Miss America
(The one that got away)
I was just too good for her
(Now she's too good for me)
We're too young to fall in love
(And I often wonder then)
Now I'm none of her concern
(But that has now come to change)
But if I had to take a guess
I would say I had a chance
Coz one in a million
To better than the rest
Coz one in a million
To better than the rest

Daughtry - Broken Arrows

Lyrics:

Hey
Show me one man who never make mistakes
Ooooo,
And I pay
All of my time and every dime I made
But today

The best of intentions
I lay at your feet
And I need you to see past the worst part of me
I'm tired of taking my aim
When I keep on missing
There's gotta be a better way
Gotta be a better way

Every little word I say
Keeps getting twisted
Coming out wrong
So baby hold on
I'm tryin' to hit the mark
But I'm shooting with broken arrows
It's like I'm shooting with broken arrows

No
I may not be the same but I've got a heart of gold
Yeah
Oooohh, like a telephone
Connection ain't clear
But hold me in my soul
You gotta know

Yeah
The best of intentions
I lay at your feet
And I need you to see past the worst part of me
And I'm tired of taking my aim
When I keep on missing
There's gotta be a better way
There's gotta be a better way

Seems like every little word I say
Keeps getting twisted
Coming out wrong
So baby hold on
I'm tryin' to hit the mark
But I'm shooting with broken arrows
It's like I'm shooting with broken arrows
It's like I'm shooting with broken arrows
It's like I'm shooting with /broken/ arrows
Broken arrows

I'm driving it back now
And the target's you
And I dunno what it is I can do
And I'm tired of taking my aim
When I keep on missing
There's gotta be a better way
There's gotta be a better way

Seems like every little word I say
Keeps getting twisted
Coming out wrong
So baby hold on
I'm trying to hit the mark
But I'm shooting with broken arrows
It's like I'm shooting with broken arrows.. yeah
It's like I'm shooting with broken arrows.... yeah
It's like I'm shooting with broken arrows
Broken arrows...

Backstreet Boys - One Phone Call

Hard to believe it
It's almost a year since
I got to hold you, head on my shoulder
Dodging the daylight, taking the blame I
It's all I got left, so lately I've spent

Every single night like its 25 to life
And this sentence I've been living is alone and unforgiven
And I'm guilty as charged cause I went and broke your heart
But even I've got rights, you're always gonna be my

Always be my one phone call
All I want, all I need is one phone call
I'm gonna leave my message at the tone
Begging pretty baby please come home
Cause you're my one
Always be my one phone call

First time it rings
I can't help but think of the first time I saw you
That moment I knew
Holding the phone tight, I hear the tone twice
If you just pick up, swear I can fix us

Every single night feels like 25 to life
And this sentence I've been living is alone and unforgiven
And I'm guilty as charged cause I went and broke your heart
But even I've got rights, your always gonna be my

Always be my one phone call
All I want, all I need is one phone call
I'm gonna leave my message at the tone
Begging pretty baby please come home
Cause you're my one
Always be my one phone call

So let me make my case
That way you won't erase the message
That I'm leaving for you now
But if you do at least you knew

Cause you're my one
Always be my one phone call
All I want, all I need is one phone call

I'm gonna leave my message at the tone
Begging pretty baby please come home
Cause you're my one
Always be my one phone call

You'll always be my one
You'll always be my one
Cause you're my one
Always be my one phone call
You'll always be my one phone call

'Nice~! :)' S.Y.

The Wolverine review

The movie plain sucks. That's the shortest way to tell it as it is.

I mean, yeah well, Huge Jackman's acting is incredible and some of the Japanese peeps are too but their performance can never hide the fact that the whole movie has NO whatsoever meaning. The story line sucks and is all over the place (like jumping around and stuff) - it's just meaningless and confusing (especially the ending), IMHO. The action part is okay. Though I guess it might be a tall order to get a few more mutants into the story line (after the whole story line gets a proper remake).

If you're looking for logical, you can just forget about it in this movie - coz well, first of all, it's mutants and stuff; second, the logic in the story is just made-up... for example, if Yoshida actually was present during the Nagasaki atomic-bombing - 1. he won't be able to live to an old age considering that he's THAT close to the bombing and plus he was out in the open air, practically immersed in the fallout, 2. he will probably die of cancer in like 5 years at most, 3. even if he survived to that old an age, he's highly likely sterile due to extensive radiation exposure and will never have a son with a granddaughter (unless he adopts them).... etc; and thirdly, wtf is Logan sleeping with a girl so much younger than him - she looks like 20 at most and he's supposed to be immortal = hundreds of years old (okay I might be exaggerating).

Sigh, I'm very disappointed with this movie. The previous Wolverine movie is way WAY better than this one.

But well, if you plan to go to the movies for this anyways, just a note, don't go out from the cinema so quickly after the movie... there's a small snippet that will be played after a little bit of the credits that indicates the producer planned on a Wolverine sequel or a link to the next X-men movie.

uTorrent Error: The system cannot find the path specified. (WriteToDisk)

Well, I had a few stuff to torrent and this error popped up.. which is weird as I was able to torrent perfectly well yesterday.

Needless to say, a quick search through the internetz yielded solutions :) So I thought I could put it here in simpler terms so nabs like me could understand :P

Okay here goes!

This error occurs due to a few common reasons

  1. The name of the path is too long. Meaning that the file name+the place the file will be saved into has more than the allowed 256 letters. So you should first remove the torrent+data from the list of torrents, then cut down on the file name or just straight save it onto your desktop (then transfer them afterwards) after you restarted the torrent download.
  2. The file name, somehow, has a full stop at the end. This is deemed unacceptable by uTorrent hence the error lol :P So, the easy way is first remove the torrent+data from the list of torrents, then delete the dot if you see it when you restart the torrent download.
  3. The place that you want to save the file in is invalid. This was the problem I faced. I was so used to everything going into my Downloads folder that I didn't notice this somehow had become blank lol - must have accidentally deleted it or something. So, just put a valid path there (a Read-Only location is NOT a valid path btw) for it to save your file into once you've done the 'remove the torrent+data from the list of torrents' and ' restart the torrent download' - for example C:\User\*your computer user name*\Downloads, then you're done!
In summary, here's a pictorial guide:

That's all I guess. There might be plenty more solutions out there (which ofc may be applicable to you depending on the cause of your error. P/S: You may get the same error which was caused by different problems.)

Good luck! :)

How to Tell the Difference Between Nerds and Geeks

Okay, I kinda forgot where I've gotten these info from so I'm really really really sorry to the original author of this article. I just hope he/she could, if he/she read this, inform me his/her name so I can properly credit him/her. Sorry again! But this is such a good read that  I wanted to share with you all - the nerds and geeks out there!

How to Tell the Difference Between Nerds and Geeks

The terms "nerd" and "geek" are often used interchangeably, but they are not the same. Both terms can be viewed as either endearing or pejorative, depending on how the term is applied, by whom, and to whom. And there is always passion aplenty involved in the definition and application of either term. This article will help you to tell the difference between nerds and geeks, with ample room for your own subjective interpretation!

Steps

1. Understand the terms. While the terms are often used interchangeably by people "less-in-the-know", and for some people who self-apply the labels "geek" or "nerd", there is often an overlap in characteristics,[1] and there are some characteristics that can be emphasized:
The term "nerd" was apparently coined in 1954, possibly from the Dr Seuss line "A nerkle, a nerd, and a seersucker too!".[2] A nerd could be viewed as someone with an extremely intense interest or fascination in an academic field of study (often an obscure field), or similar "cerebral" pursuit. Being a nerd is typically associated with intellect, as a nerd often enjoys specialising in complicated fields of study. Nerds may also have difficulties socialising with others, as many tend towards being introverted, although it is also said that a nerd cannot be bothered developing social skills while busy with other interests.[3] Nerds often have gained a strong and diverse skill set from their studies and experiences, which may at times be unorthodox or impractical. Nerd interests may cover a broad range of interests, from movies to games (video and table-top), to more practical skills such as computer science.
Very likely to be a rocket scientist, a renowned yet reclusive professor, a scientist, an intellectual, an inventor, etc.

The term "geek" is often said to have originated from circus performers in sideshows, referring to those who performed bizarre feats.[4] However, its earliest meaning is, "one who is regarded as foolish, offensive, worthless, etc."[5] Today, the term has taken on a positive slant and a geek could be viewed as someone with an interest or lifestyle having to do with niche activities, especially fandom and technology.[6] It is not uncommon for a geek to be capable of reciting large amounts of knowledge that is unintuitive, intriguing and (at times) long-winded. The knowledge could be anything from the mundane to 'living encyclopedia' status.[7] Geeks tend to have average grades. Geeks can vary in their interests, from fun (films) and sometimes even frivolous things (collecting plastic figurines), to heavily technological interests (computing, hacking, and programming). Urban Dictionary goes so far as to suggest that society still views computer programming as a "bizarre feat" and the term "geek" is a proud label reflecting this.[8]
Likely to be a gamer, a Star Trek fan, technologically enthused, a software programmer, a film series/book series buff, a free-spirited (not malevolent) technology hacker, a creator of unusual objects (artist, etc.), etc.[9]

2. Observe the person. What sort of words and phrases do they interject into their dialogue?
  • Jargon and obscure referencing: Nerds are unabashed about using jargon or unfamiliar terminology in their dialogue, whereas geeks will use obscure references abundantly.
  • Details: Geeks often take interest in the microcosmic details of life, such as noticing that your present situation is much like one from a news article or novel. Nerds will be seemingly uninterested in the details of daily life, being more focused on the macroscopic, such as scientific possibilities and the future of humankind.

3. Take a quick inventory of their prominent possessions, especially ones related to hobbies and other interests. Check for unusual objects, such as a dictionary of an obscure language, or an encyclopedia of exotic birds. Nerds may be more willing than geeks to show off hobbies and possessions that flaunt their intellect, whereas geeks may take pride in more obscure and unique subjects.

4. Engage the person in conversation. If the person fails to respond in a socially comfortable manner (i.e., they make you nervous, or vice versa), you may be talking to a nerd. If they respond in a comfortable manner but appear a little "dorky", such as speaking and/or acting silly, you might be talking to a geek. Also, nerds may speak in layman's terms for your benefit because you may not understand the basic concepts of their area of interest. Geeks may speak in detail about their interests, possibly forgetting that the target audience may not have the same level of knowledge in that field as themselves.
  • Jokes: Geeks usually get them, nerds either don't, or can't be bothered trying.[10]

5. Inquire about the person's interests. Hobbies which do not elicit emotion, such as frequent studying of academic works, are good indications of a nerd, while an obsession with the practice of academics (i.e., a passionate college lecturer) would indicate a geek.
  • Example nerd interests for comparison:
  1. Physics (such as quantum mechanics or astronomy), chemistry, biology, engineering and fuzzy math
  2. Chess, and other strategy games
  3. 17th century English literature
  4. Classical music
  5. International politics and CSpan stuff
  6. Computer programming (overlap interest)
  • Example geek interests for comparison:
  1. Specialized forms of activities, such as 'tricking'
  2. "Niche" activities, such as electrical engineering
  3. Novels that have a foundation within a field of study
  4. Noise, techno-music
  5. "Odd" activities, such as creating Rube-Goldberg machines
  6. Computer programming (overlap interest)

6. Check out the partner of the person in question. Matt Blum claims that geeks have no problem falling in love with non-geeks but nerds always fall in love with other nerds.[11]

7. Note that the interests of nerds and geeks often overlap. Most nerds enjoy the more intellectual forms of science fiction and most geeks have a higher knowledge of science or encyclopedic data than the general population.

8. Aim to assume nothing and to treat all fellow human beings with equal respect, whatever label they're self-applying or you're tempted to apply. While there are a number of (often geek) commentators arguing that the term "geek" has a more modern, updated and positive connotation than that of "nerd"[12], the viewpoint is in the eye (or argument) of the beholder. The best approach to speaking and engaging with any person in your life is to be respectful, considerate and caring before all.
  • Remember that someone who calls themselves a nerd or geek may have different definition or interpretation of the term than you do. There are regional trends, but definitions should be examined on a person-by-person basis.
  • Some geeks perceive themselves as having transitioned from being a nerd earlier in life to becoming a switched-on geek later in life, almost like an epiphany, or a rite of passage.[13]Whatever the case, most of us have experienced growth at various stages of life, so try not to box anybody in with past expectations.
  • Be aware that 'your' application of either the term "geek" or "nerd" to another person may be viewed as an insult, whereas if said within the group, it may be viewed as positive.

Tips
  • To engage a geek or a nerd in conversation, be prepared to accept that there is something fundamentally interesting about what they obsess about. You may not fully understand why, but just accept that it is so.
  • Nerds may not feel the need to defend attacks against their areas of interest, since they simply don't care so much about others' opinions. Geeks are typically very energetic, and will jump at the chance to discuss a topic they care about, to help convince you about its worth.
  • The interests of geeks are often ridiculed or put-down by those who do not fully appreciate them. Nerds themselves are often ridiculed or put-down by those who do not fully understand them.
  • Some nerds believe that their interests are of "potential value to humanity as a whole, although humanity doesn't know it yet".
  • Geeks are typically able to extrapolate beyond an object's immediate value to foresee future value, although many will merely see a trinket, hoarding, or garbage.
  • Very generally, a nerd might become a scientist or inventor, while a geek might become an engineer, an academic, or a critic (such as of films).
  • Geeks qualify for Mensa; nerds join. (Geeks and nerds both qualify for Mensa, however, nerds—preferring the company of others with similarly high IQ's—are more likely to join Mensa, just as nerds are more likely to pick a fellow nerd for a mate.)[15]
  • Nerds and geeks, by their very nature, will never be 'mainstream' or accepted by the general populace. All one can do is attempt to be a little more open-minded, and a little more understanding of one another.
  • It is possible that somebody is either a nerd, or a geek, and doesn't realize it, and therefore doesn't celebrate their status or, identify with it, and may even be struggling to be seen as "mainstream".
  • Both geeks and nerds may have traits of Asperger's syndrome, which is soon to disappear as a separate diagnostic category and be incorporated into the high end of autistic-spectrum disorders in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of the American Psychiatric Association. Becoming aware of this, if it fits you, can do much to alleviate the constant pain of trying to fit in where you cannot do so, when a greater measure of self-acceptance and capitalizing on your undeniable strengths would be a better strategy for leading a fruitful and happy life.

Warnings
  • Geeks are well aware of their "geekiness". Many geeks are even proud of being a geek, hence the launching of sites such as ThinkGeek.com, LifeHacker, Gizmodo, and Engadget. Therefore, do not ever challenge a geek's level of 'geekdom' if you wish to converse with them. Likewise, do not question the intellect of a nerd, lest you be shunned from their conversations.
  • Many nerds and geeks are introverted, and some are even asocial. They may even not want to talk to you at all. Be patient when conversing with them.
  • Don't assume that geeks and nerds only have one interest. A linguist or artist may also happen to play football or guitar.
  • Nerds and geeks are often clever and witty. Enjoying the SyFy channel or knowing the Constitution in Latin are not grounds for claims of inferiority.
  • Do not assume that nerds and geeks want to be "converted" into "popular" people. Despite common misconception, nerds and geeks do not worship the popular, nor are they frightened by those who are seemingly popular. In fact, there may even be pity for the popular person's shallow lifestyle.
  • Geeks are generally more open to talk things out with you if they disagree; a nerd will typically shun you, merely believing that you simply "don't understand." Don't take it personally; simply realize that they're probably very frustrated that other people don't connect with them at the same intellectual level.
  • It is possible for someone to be a nerd and a geek, depending on definition. For example, people who like Star Trek may be interested in NASA level quantum physics. A tomato gardener may have a degree in bio-chemical engineering. Many "nerd" and "geek" interests interlace. Often being a geek leads to being a nerd, as people research areas of science and technology appropriate to their interest. Similarly, nerds can become geeks, as expertise leads to interests outside the typically "academic".

'So... which one are you? I reckon I'm a bit of both... maybe I should come up with a new term for the ones who are caught in between both worlds... hmm... how about 'Neeks' or 'Gerds' or just 'SAGAN (in no relation to the super famous astronomer. S, super; A, amazing; G, geeks; A, and; N, nerds)'? Ahaha (lol laughing at my own lame joke). Meh, but I'm pretty serious about the first 2 suggestions though. Whad'ya think? More suggestions? Put em down in the comments below! :P' S.Y.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Narration for its alternative endings

Deus Ex - is derived from the Latin expression 'deus ex machina', literally meaning "god from the machine".
This is honestly the best and most insightful (in terms of the limits and boundaries of science, technology, morality and humanity) game that I have ever played (or will ever play... seriously, it's THAT good!). Nevertheless, despite being able to choose only 1 ending, I'll bet many of the game's players would very much like to read about the ending/watch the video, so I thought I should compile them here since I've already had them all typed out a long time ago :P Enjoy!

P/S: I chose self-destruct with neutral morality (coz I just so love to sneak up behind enemies and kill em even though I did plenty of good deeds :P) I'm 'angelically good' in Fable though hehe :P

All twelve endings are in this 1 video, so enjoy! :)

If you're GOOD......

Darrow's ending

Albert Einstein said "Technological progress is like an axe in the hands of a pathological criminal". Took me awhile but I finally see his point. How often have we chased the dream of progress, only to see that dream perverted? More often than not, haven't the machines we built to improve life shattered the lives of millions? And now we want to turn that dream on ourselves, to fundementally improve who we are. Experience has shown me how dangerous that can be. How many times, in the call of duty, did I almost fall into the trap of taking shortcuts, abusing my abilities or the resources at hand? I resisted - barely at times - because I valued human lives and considerations. But can I truly despise others who fall? Technology offers us strength; strength enables dominance and dominance paves the way for abuse. Darrow understood this. He knew that using technology to become something more than we are risks losing our ability to love, aspire or make moral choices - the very things that make us human. It also risks giving some men the power to make others what they choose - regardless of the cost to human dignity. The suffering Darrow inflicted is not the end of the world. It's merely the seed for change. And change never comes without pain.

Sarif's ending

Sarif was right about 1 thing. It's in our nature to want to rise above our limits. Think about it. We were cold, so we harnessed fire. We were weak, so we invented tools. Every time we met an obstacle, we used creativity and ingenuity to overcome it. The cycle is inevitable... but will the outcome always be good? I guess that will depend on how we approach it. These past few months, I was challenged many times, but more often than not, didn't I try to keep morality in mind, knowing that my actions didn't have to harm others? Time and time again, didn't I resist the urge to abuse power and resources, simply to achieve my goals more swiftly? In the past, we've had to compensate for weaknesses, finding quick solutions that only benefit a few. But what if we never need to feel weak or morally conflicted again? What if the path Sarif wants us to take enables us to hold on to higher values with more stability? One thing is obvious. For the first time in history, we have a chance to steal fire from the Gods. To turn away from it now - to stop pursuing a future in which technology and biology combine, leading to the promise of a Singularity - would mean to deny the very essence of who we are. No doubt the road to get there will be bumpy, hurting some people on the way. But won't achieving the dream be worth it? We can become the gods we've always striving to be. We might as well get good at it.

Taggart's ending

Freedom... To those who don't have it, it's more valuable than gold. But where should it start and end? We humans often think we have the right to expand, absorb, convert or possess anything we need to reach our dreams. But time and time again, hasn't this led to conflicts with others who essentially believe the same thing? Looking back at the challenges I faced - at the way I often resolved them - I realised morality can become our saving grace. Most of the time, didn't I try to keep my values in mind, knowing how my actions would affect others? More often than not, I resisted the urge to abuse power and resources simply to reach my goals more swiftly. I managed to hang on to my humanity - but the tempatation to ignore it was always there. That's what Taggart is worried about. He's not afraid of freedom. He's afraid of the chaos that erupts when individuals have nothing but morality to constrain them. He wants us to regulate enhancement technologies, because he fears all that power without limits, without guiderails to keep us from abusing it. Absolute freedom is no better than chaos. Society needs laws and regulations to protect it. So if the men and women behind Taggart need to work in the shadows, pulling strings to enable us to head in a safe direction, will supporting them be all that bad? If they are as wise as Taggart says, how bad will their leadership be? I just hope they stand by what they say.

Self-destruct's ending

Do I trust mankind to save itself? That's what Eliza was asking. The truth is, I don't know. After everything I've seen, all the fighting, and the chaos around me, I only know what I want to believe, somehow, human decency will triumph. These past few months, I faced many life-threatening situations. I could have given up many times, but my need to know the truth, to uncover the secrets that others were hiding, and to survive, forced me to keep on going. Most of the time, I tried to keep my values in mind, knowing my actions did not have to harm others. I held on to my humanity, resisting the urge to abuse power or resources in order to meet my goals. And in the end, I got the job done. But does this mean I have the right to choose for everyone? No. Because it isn't up to me. It isn't up to Darrow, Sarif or Taggart, either. Ordinary men and women will have to decide together what course mankind should take. The kind of people who, time and time again, have picked and chosen the future in highly practical ways - slowing changes when it's negative, speeding it up when it's good. Can they do it again? I don't know. But I do know I'm not about to let anyone in this station, myself included, stand in their way.

EVIL......

When facing difficult choices, how often did I take the easiest path abusing technologies and resources at hand in order to accomplish my goals? If other people needed my help or simply stood in my way, did I not callously and systematically discount them? Technology gave me the power to achieve what I wanted. But I was blind to the suffering I caused.

Sarif believed so, but my own experience makes me wonder. These past few months, I've been tested many times, and too often I choose to inflict suffering when challenged, even though I had alternatives. I reacted selfishly, abusing power and resources to accomplish my goals - and I lost my humanity along the way. But perhaps selfishness is one limit I have yet to overcome. Given time and ingenuity, perhaps Man's willingness to improve will turn out to be stronger than any evil we create.

How often, in my desire to reach a goal, did I put my needs first, ignoring others or causing senseless pain, simply because something stood in my way? Didn't I often act coldly, becoming a destructive force that lost touch with my humanity along the way? I got what I wanted, sure. But at what cost to others around me? That's what Taggart is worried about. He's not afraid of freedom. He's afraid of the chaos that erupts when individuals have nothing but a weak grasp on morality to constrain them. He wants to regulate enhancement technologies, because he fears all that power without limits, without guiderails to keep us from abusing it.

After everything I've seen, all the fighting, and the chaos around me, all I really know is this: human beings are survivors. These past few months, I faced many life-threatening situations. I could have given up many times, but my need to know the truth, to uncover the secrets that others were hiding, and to survive, forced me to keep on going. Most of the time, I dealt with obstacles ruthlessly, abusing resources and afflicting suffering before others could do it to me. Detached from my humanity, I may not have done the best thing, but I always got the job done. Thank goodness I'm not the only one out there. Because the truth is, deciding the future for all of mankind shouldn't be left up to one man. Ordinary men and women will have to decide together what course mankind should take. The kind of people who, time and time again, have picked and chosen the future in highly practical ways - slowing changes when it's negative, speeding it up when it's good. Can they do it again? NEUTRAL......

Darrow's ending

And now we want to turn that dream on ourselves, to fundementally improve who we are. Experience has shown me how dangerous that can be. When facing difficult choices, sometimes I considered human lives and suffering, but other times my own interests were paramount. Did I always do the right thing? Or did the presence of an easy answer lead me astray? Technologies are invented to make our lives easier - not our choices. The problem comes when we forget that. Sarif believed so, but my own experience makes me wonder. These past few months, I've been tested many times, and even though I managed to show concern for people on several occasions, I also caused them injury often enough. Consumed with a desire to succeed, I found it easy to abuse power and resources when I wanted to. But perhaps that's just one limit I have yet to overcome. Given time and ingenuity, perhaps Man's willingness to improve will turn out to be stronger than any evil his selfishness creates. One thing is obvious. We humans often think we have the right to expand, absorb, convert or possess anything we need to reach our dreams. But time and time again, hasn't this led to conflicts with others who essentially believe the same thing? Looking back at the challenges I faced, sometimes I made an effort to spare lives, to use the tools and resources around me in ways that might benefit all... but not always. Intent on reaching my goals, how often did I waver adhering to my morals and indulging in self-centered concerns? If I fell, was it because I didn't care, or because I lacked the strength to go the extra mile. Absolute freedom is no better than chaos. Self-destruct's ending

Do I trust mankind to save itself? That's what Eliza was asking. The truth is, I don't know. After everything I've seen, all the fighting, and the chaos around me, all I really know is this: danger brings out the best and worst in all of us. These past few months, I faced many life-threatening situations. I could have given up many times, but my need to know the truth, to uncover the secrets that others were hiding, and to survive, forced me to keep on going. Sometimes I consider the effects my actions would have on others and found solutions that would benefit us all. Other times, I did the opposite, abusing power and resources without care, simply to benefit myself. So what does this say about me? Perhaps I am only human, and looking for a way to survive. Of course, so were Darrow, Sarif and Taggart. Each of them idealistic men, so caught up in achieving their view of the future, they failed to see the chaos they left behind. So now, I'm leaving the future up to ordinary men and women to decide. The kind of people who, time and time again, have picked and chosen the future in highly practical ways - slowing changes when it's negative, speeding it up when it's good. Can they do it again? I don't know. But I do know I'm not about to let anyone in this station, myself included, stand in their way.
