I'm in the newspaper! xD

Yes, you have not read wrongly! I was interviewed (via FB message lol) and my comments are included in Metro, The Star (Perak Edition) along with a pic :P The article is cropped off a bit at the bottom (the screenshot can only capture so much lol :P)

My experience with this time's interview with a journalist is rather carefree - definitely not like being interviewed for a job or scholarship lol. We are more like 'aunties' at the nearby coffee shop chatting away, sharing each other's thoughts and we both got confused with PTPTN's many twist and turns in their re-payment scheme/s (considering that I have paid very little attention to PTPTN because I'm not a PTPTN borrower lol). 

Hence, my strong opinion on making sure all students, before applying for a loan, please be aware of the pros and cons, the repayment schemes and ensure that being a loan borrower, it is your responsibility and duty to repay the agency (despite how low an opinion you have of them). It's like a bank loan, if you don't pay up, you will lose... everything. Seriously. Learn of the consequence before jumping on the PTPTN bandwagon; learn of alternatives; be aware of what you can and cannot do while you still owe money to the PTPTN agency.... information is the king here. Make sure you know and understand these stuff.

A Mother's Love

Enjoy! It's amazing, the art, but I think the music can be improved - the transition between songs sounded a bit sudden. :P

Jaw (muscle) pain or TMD (temporomandibular disorder)

Yes, I seem to have plenty of these sort of problems lol - from stomach bloating and gastric to anxiety disorders lol. 

Anyway, I've found out the problem for my jaw (muscle) pain so I thought I should share it to ya'll. 

Symptoms: In my case, my jaw muscle/s feel/s slightly sore (like when you went for a jog and your leg muscles start to ache) whenever I yawn/open my jaw wider than usual (usual as in when I'm eating). It also feels slightly numb when I clench my jaw together tightly.

Suspected problem: Clenching and/or grinding my teeth subconsciously/ during sleep. This usually happens when someone is under stress. Though there are plenty of other causes - check them here.

Solution: (P/S: This is the important part - I have no knowledge of this until today lol :P Hope it helps!)

Remember the saying, "Lips together ... teeth apart." When you are relaxed:

1.  your teeth should be slightly apart.
2. your tongue should be resting gently against the roof of your mouth and
3. your lips should be relaxed and barely touching or slightly apart. 

Try to keep your upper and lower teeth apart, except when you are eating or swallowing.

I wish I could put a part of the comic up here that is meaningful to me but I'm afraid of being sued lol, so here it is... THE LINK! :D

This is the first time I learn of the word 'Introspective' and I realised that in the 4 boxes of comic that describes introspective - I have EVERY ONE OF THEM. Seriously... (though why with all the caps lol :P). Anyway, lemme summarise it for ya.

Introspective - 

• Thinks too much sometimes about everything in general. 
• Keeps reminding one's self of every horrendous (embarrassing, awkward etc) event that ever happened in his/her life
• Worry over stuff that he/she has totally no control over
• Discouraging one's self by convincing self that every single thing that he/she does, someone else is doing a better version of it... so why bother? lol
• Binge-ing on food ... ... hurrah! lol

Hmm, maybe I should start running again - but usually when I go for a run and when I enter that very tired stage, my mind tend to go blank/blurry (although I'm actually still seeing where I put my foot in real life). I just stop thinking of other problems - just thinking of how much further I can go~

oh and btw, almost all of his comics are hilarious... just sayin' ;) Enjoy!

A tip though, staring at the colours won't help you. Look through it as much as possible without overly tiring your eyes out, then take a short break. Later, come back to the colour hues and swap a few 'mistakes' that you see :) I'm just too lazy to redo the test so meh, 16 is good enough for me :P

On Autotune

A very insightful article on autotune and its use from the perspective of a musician/band (This article is originally by Paradise Fears btw) :) Enjoy!

First, almost every professional recording uses some form of pitch correction.

I say almost because there are exceptions to prove the rule, but I would venture to estimate 99% of the songs you hear feature vocals that have been tuned using some variant of autotune software. Even live recordings and live performances often feature tuning. I can’t tell you how many times people will compliment me for “not needing to use Autotune” on a recording that we used pitch correction for. Not because we needed to. Because we wanted to.

Second, what’s often mis-identified as autotune is just a choice of vocal effect.

Just as guitars have different effects that are used in different songs, technology has made possible an incredible number of ways to alter the sound of a vocal. An uneffected vocal, straight mic-to-speaker, would sound unnatural to you, because it lacks the natural reverb that you’re used to when you hear someone sing right in front of you. So already, you need to add a reverb effect to make it sound natural. From there, there are hundreds of adjustments you can make. And just like most electric guitar players consider the fine-tuning of effects to be a part of playing the guitar, I see vocal effects as a part of the artistry. The T-Pain effect is called “hard tune,” and that’s not because T-Pain is a poor singer, it’s an effect that’s used deliberately. And obviously people like it, because T-Pain has made a career of it.

Third, why would you ever prefer listening to something out-of-tune than something in-tune?

To say, “I don’t like how much autotune is used,” is to say “I don’t like how well-tuned this vocal is,” which is to say, “I would prefer hearing something that was out of tune.” Trust me - you don’t. No one likes seeing sausages being made, but everybody likes eating sausages. It’s not the process, but the product that’s important. If you like the way it sounds, why would youwant it to sound worse?

Worth noting, I do like the sound of a real, natural, authentic sounding vocal. There are some recordings where I love the subtle imperfections and slight misses, but even those vocals have generally undergone at least some amount of tuning, and on the whole, I would take something that’s in tune over something that’s out of tune any day of the week.

Fourth, auto-tune can’t make a bad singer into a good one. 

It’s a tool, not a crutch. There’s so much more to singing than just hitting the right notes, and in my opinion, a strict focus on just hitting the exact pitch for every note and nothing else will leave you with a dull, dry, personality-less vocal performance. Pitch correction provides the cover that vocalists need to take risks with nuance when they’re singing, and make the entire process more efficient.

Just some food for thought before you start bashing a singer for using autotune (a bit) in his/her music. Just sayin'

CastleStorm review

Tower defense with something more! :)

Witty-lame dialogues (lol), cool concept (for both artwork and gameplay), and you get to build your own castle (with preset rooms for you to add)! :D

Witty-lame dialogues: What? My soldiers are on strike? ... lol  :P

There are 2 kinds of mission - one is the main story missions and the other is side missions whereby you can earn more money to upgrade your units or stats. I highly recommend you to do ALL the side missions :) They do help! Bonus objectives are a must as well - if you can do it. Some of them are rather hard IMHO hence I gave up after the 3rd try lol. :P Select the best projectile, troops and castle rooms to make it easier for you to complete the bonus objective.

Mission start: You can select up to 5 types of troops, projectiles and spells per mission

Cool stats that you can show off to people - like having 100% accuracy or 100% headshots lol :P

Besides that, you get to choose from a variety of fun projectiles to shoot your enemies with. The same goes for spells, soldiers and castle rooms (that have function).

Fun projectiles: Weird kinds of projectiles that can convert enemy troops or turn the enemy into a turkey... lol

Spells whereby you can 'summon' the hero/ heroin into battle - you'll be taking control of the hero/heroin and hack and slash your way to the enemy gates in a scrolling 2D platform :) Note that everything else is in 3D, but your hero/heroin's movement is 2D only.

And now for the most unique feature of this game: castle building! :) Although you can opt for the preset ones, I often find the preset ones a bit lacking. So, Ima build my own castle (using the preset one as a template ofc hehe)! The controls for the editor may take you awhile to figure out and get used to as there are no tutorial, whatsoever, for this. Actually, there aren't any tutorials for you that tells you about the existence of the preset castles... anyway, after building the castle, remember to test it first - just in case, the castle will collapse on itself without being hit by any projectiles lol.

CASTLE BUILDING: The editor menu

CASTLE BUILDING: Choose from a variety of rooms to add to your castle. There are functional rooms and structural ones - you are limited to having only 5 different training rooms for troops and 9 bonus rewards' rooms. Max 50 rooms/objects per castle.

'A pretty cool game that may get a bit repetitive after awhile - like all tower defense I suppose. The best part is castle building IMHO but you need to like alter it a bit to suit each mission - especially if you plan on getting the bonus objective. :) A good and unique game nevertheless, worth a play if you can spare the time. :)' S.Y.

Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons Review

P/S: I've edited this - I'm too lazy and too unmotivated (since there are like soooo many walkthroughs already) to write a walkthrough lol. So, if you really need that walkthrough (actually you don't. Just take some time to explore a bit... you'll find out soon what the story wants you to do), go google it.

Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons menu

This is one of the most profound games that I've ever played that came from an indie company :) (I mean besides Deus Ex and perhaps Bioshock games). Note: Major spoilers btw.

Brothers' love

It's brimming with emotions, easy-to-figure-out-by-yourself puzzles (that may take some time - but you'll get there eventually... I did :)) and life lessons. 

With both brothers' controls, you will be able to move
stuff that a single brother cannot do

Superb graphics!

It's creative in a way that requires you to control both characters, most of the time, simultaneously and for me, the controls do require some time in getting used to it lol. The music is perfect for the game IMHO though sometimes I feel as though the music can do without the wailing from the lady singer lol. Although the characters all speak some alien language that are rather annoying at first, but you'll gradually realise that you don't need to understand what they are talking to play the game. The graphics are rather astounding (considering that they are an indie company :)). Starbreeze (the company that developed this game) placed quite a number of benches in the game where you can seat both brothers down and enjoy the scenery + take screenshots - that's pretty awesome :). The brothers' movements are rather fluid (though sometimes it might get a bit jerky). No glitches encountered - making this game almost on par with Borderlands's standards (seriously, it's like all the other games have major glitches somewhere in them, but not Borderlands - it's perfect! ;)). Plus, not to mention, there are other non-quest related interactive stuff that are pretty fun :P 

Puzzles: You will need to swing one brother at a time :)

Anyway, I'd love to write a walk through for this game but I think that's for another day (it's rather late here) :P Anyway, here's the story - fresh from playing the game, so the story is still stuck in my mind lol

Drench yourself in blood and let the younger brother stand on the shoulders of the elder brother - mimicking the cultists' 'god' - would help you get pass the cultists and save the lady (wrong screenshot but meh the advice still stands)

Each brother should hang on to each end of the branch and then move slowly to the left until they both drop off the cliff and into the water.

Finally, the miracle water!

Two brothers left in search of a miraculous water that can cure their fatally ailing father. With cooperation and superb teamwork, they will face and overcome various challenges in their way (mostly climbing but there are several really cool what-would-you-do-in-these-kind-of-situation stuff). You get to fly a flying machine, row a boat through rapids and avoiding hungry sea creatures, edge across cliffs, swing across the edges of walls (while the brothers are so high up), save a troll's wife, save and ride on a bird creature :P (that looks like a griffon to me), ride mountain goats, crash a sacrificial ceremony and outwit the cultists there to save the lady in distress, crawl into tunnels, defeat the spider queen and a giant troll, and finally, grieve with the younger brother as he buried his dear brother and moved on - overcoming his fear of water and to be able to do things that he used to need his brother's help with. 

You get to actually fly a flying machine - just rmb to hang on tight! And turn when you need to :P

You get to ride a mountain goat as well... how cool is that? :D But ofc, you need to keep the interacting keys pressed at all times or they will dismount lol :P

You get to fly on a griffon/bird creature :)

You get to row a boat!

Grieving young brother after he buried his elder brother

It's really heart-aching to see the young boy grieve and you feel as though you wanted to reach out to him - to comfort him. His father, after being cured, fell to his knees and cried when he was in front of the graves of both his eldest son and his wife (who drowned in the intro of the game, hence the younger boy's fear of water began). 

'Seriously, for me, I'd give it a 10/10 but IGN gave only a 8/10. Still, that's really good already :) A must play for gamers who enjoy a good and touching storyline without too much hack and slash' S.Y.

The Addictiveness of Playing the AH (in Rift) - Part II + Dimension Building!

I'm on a roll here... lol.

So, Despite being really committed to hitting the 5k plat mark (that I set for myself), I kept finding myself buying stuff in the end lol. It has been around 2 months since I've started my first character on Rift and lookie now... I have 2 accounts (F2P ones) with 2 characters each; 1 level 60, 1 level 50, 1 level 27 and another is just for storage lol; I have a bank guild with 3 tabs open; my main has an addition of 2 bag slots; all my characters are using empyrean bags (All bought at the low price of around 40plat... lol - seeing how the market is faring, I'll bet the price will drop even more within this week); my mailbox is maxed out, and I have SOOOOOOOOOO many artifacts until I don't know where to store them. Plus, I'll bet if I haven't spent any of my earned in-game money, I'll probably be sitting on around 15k plat right now.

Although I know fishing is very lucrative (as aforementioned in my previous Rift-related post), I'm just too lazy to sit over a stupid pond to keep fishing until my eyes bleed... it's just too boring - I'd rather go do carnage quests and hunt for artifacts lol. Dealing in artifacts is getting really really competitive nowadays... too many people are fishing lol. Anyway, I always have a backup niche or two where I can still earn a steady amount of money on the AH - that I've decided not to reveal to you all... lol. Okay, a hint... selling lumber - linden and elm are really profitable and some of the herbs too. Any flowers/ logs that you can sell for more than 1 plat each is extremely profitable IMHO. However, in this case, I'll have to get a bit hardworking and go farm a bit :P

Oh and there's my dimension to take care of lol. I'm still building my second tree house and am planning to link both tree houses via a sky bridge. Then, after decorating my tree houses, I might build a few platforms below the tree houses and a slide for people to 'slide' down to the ground. :) It'll be like a mini, virtual theme park but with tree houses lol :P and weird boats bobbing around on land... (I refuse to spend any of my plats to buy a new dimension which actually has water in it). haha.

NOW: Plenty of nicks and knacks + statues that I've managed to buy, cheaply, from the AH
