Memorising using stories

I was hoping to write some sort of guide here, but, in the end, I got lazy xP

oh well, here are some examples taken from my fb notes page that I've used stories to memorise oh-my-gawd-it's-so-friggin-hard-to-memorise-all-these-BS-chemical-fking-names phytochemicals in phytochemistry class xD

The words in [] are the actual terms that I have to memorise ... lol and the descriptions usually relates to effects/use of these phytochemicals


Phenols
- the story of SP PP-ing during PE class and how the scolded and caned classmates handle their anger in being humiliated.

Simple Plan (SP) [Simple Phenols], when the band is still young, consists of two members, [Lignin] and [Melanin]. In Physical Education (PE) [PhenylEther] class, they were playing the games called A Net Hole [Trans-anethole] and ApiHole [apiole] with their classmates. They got so excited that they accidentally pee pee (PP) [PhenylPropanoid] in their pants (They have bowel syndromes). Ms [Coumarin], the PE [PhenylEther] teacher, rushed in and helped them clean up their PP [PhenylPropanoid] and gave them [Eugenol-dentol analgestic] to stop the peeing while the other classmates, the [Tannin] cousins, the [Quinone] twins and [Flavanoids] siblings, laughed at them. Both SPs burst out crying and ran from the PE room.

[Tannin], [Quinone] and [Flavanoids] were given a scolding and 'caning's as they had laughed at SP. Both [Tannin]s, [Condensed Tannin] (his parents were [Flavanols] - in-breeding among family members are common for [Flavanols]) and [Hydrolyzable Tannin] (his parents are [Glucose] and [Gallic acid]) got so [bitter] over it that they went to the nursery class and hit two boys, [Eucalyptus] and [Corilagin] though [Condensed Tannin] chickened out and ran so only [Hydrolyzable Tannin] ended up getting suspended from school.

The [Quinone] twins, [Hydroquinone] and [Ubiquinone] did something different to release their anger - [Hydroquinone] went and put chemicals which caused [leaf growth reduction] in their family's treasured lily plant (cause he never liked it) and gave [chemical defense] to his fav rose plant instead! [Ubiquinone] went on the Electrically-powered Train Commuter [Electron Transport Chain (ETC)] and never came back (the ETC crashed halfway and all passengers died in the accident).

The [Flavanoid] siblings, namely, [Anthocyanin], [Chalcone], [Flavone], [Flavanone], [Flavonol] and [Isoflavone] did different things too. Truthfully though, the only few things that these siblings share are their [2 Benzene rings] on each middle fingers and the [Propane (3C)]-made chain that they wear [in the middle].

Anyhow, [Anthocyanin] went back home after the humiliating scolding and painted his room [red] and [blue] because these colours soothe him. [Chalcone] went and hang out with his buddies, [Silybin] (He wants to be a doctor when he grows up so he can [treat] [liver disease] and [skin cancer] and [synthesise rRNA]), [Genistein] (He claims to be Einstein's descendent... liar! lol~) and [Phlorizin] ([Phlorizin] has a bad habit of [inhibiting the growth of the apple seedling]in his backyard because he doesn't like to eat apples), at the mall.

[Flavone] started eating [acacetin] jelly to relieve his anger and has never stopped since! [Flavanone] immediately got infected with both [Hesperidin] and [Diosmin] after he got back from school that he had to be admitted into the hospital! [Flavonol] went with his gang of friends and started ganging [Galangin] up the kids in the neighbourhood while drinking alcohols (their favourite is Galan gin [Galangin]).

[Isoflavone] got psychotic and started putting loads of [Isoflavanoid] [fish poisons] and [antifungal] into the family fish pond. He later added [Rotenone] and [Isoflavanone] in for good measure and was given a severe beating as all the fishes in the pond died.




The Terpene Family

In the [terpene] family, there are 6 brothers - hemiterpene, monoterpene, diterpene, sesquiterpene, triterpene and tetraterpene.

The youngest one, [hemiterpene] is as bouncy for a 5-year-old boy [C5]as the Tigger ([tiglic acid]) in Winnie the Pooh's movie. He is also so angelic-looking ([angelic acid]) that he almost always make ladies go 'smoggy' ([phytochemical smog]) over him.

The second youngest brother, [monoterpene], age 10 [C10], loves to cycle ([cyclic]) and when he's not on his bike cycling, his other brothers will call him affectionately (it got stucked as a nickname) as [Acyclic]! Haha! Besides that, he loves [essential oils and perfumes] (though he is a boy) - his favourite few are [menthol], [camphor] and [safranol].

The third youngest, [sesquiterpene] is 15-years old [C15]. He and monoterpene are inseparable - they both like [essential oils], though sesqui's favourite oils are [ABA], [cadrol] and [santonin] instead.

The middle brother, [diterpene], age 20 [C20], is a bit 'touched' in the head - he's still talking gibberish ([gibberelic acid]) most of the time like a baby at this age and his favourite friend is his soft toy bear called [Taxol]. He also likes to eat raisins (resin).

[Triterpene] is 30 years old [C30]. He's one of the two working people in the family - their parents have already retired. He works at [Squalene] International - a very demanding company. To cope with stress of overwork, he likes to carry around a bottle of cardiovascular meds ([cardiac glycosides]). Triterpene is very famous within his family as well as among his friends and colleagues for his very weird mood-swings - when he's in normal mood [common triterpene], he's okay to be with; when he's in sapu-tears [saponin] mood, he's unbearable; when he's in stellar/oustanding [sterols] mood, this is when he can finish up a week's job in a day - a.k.a. workaholic mood! No matter how weird he is, he is the only person in the family with a girlfriend! Her name is Amy Alpha-cin[alpha-amycin] (*It's a word anagram btw, if you haven't figured it out yet*)!

Lastly, the eldest brother, [tetraterpene], age 40 [C40], is an artist. He is wonderful with [colouring agents] and [pigments] mixing. Also, he has a fetish with carrots (his brothers often call him a rabbit behind his back) - he always claim that the [carotenoids] in carrots just keeps him going, like coffee do for other people. However, he also often warn people that not all carotenoids are good - [gamma-carotenoids] are bad enough as it has [cyclization at only one end] but [beta-carotenoids] have [cyclization at both ends] and, hence, are better.

'I hope I can, one day, come around to writing a guide on how to do these sort of stuff. It works very well for me though - I could remember the story and what it meant during my quiz and had aced it =)' S.Y.
